About Measham Youth Centre

Measham Youth Centre is the home of Measham Youth Club.

The Youth Club was started in 1964 and in 1968 purchased the old cimema building by the edge of the canal. It remained here until the site was compulsorily purchased by Leicestershire County Council to allow for the canal to be re-dug and a waterside marina to be established in the heart of the village. With the money from the sale of our old land we were able to buy the former Methodist Chapel in Bosworth Road. We were lucky enough to be awarded generous grants from The Big Lottery, The Coalfields Regeneration Trust  and Veolia. This enabled us to adapt the building for use as a Youth Club.  Just recently we were awarded a grant of £3,000 towards our running costs by the Sir Timothy Brooks Fund – administered by Leicestershire and Rutland Community Foundation.   To add to this award, we have also received a grant from IM Properties via the Mercia Community Fund.  This grant of £1276 will be used to convert all of our lighting to LED bulbs.  This will reduce our electricity consumption and also help reduce our carbon footprint.

MC Kickboxing and fitness use the centre for training.  They train on a Tuesday evening 7 pm till 8 pm, Thursday evening 7pm till 8pm and a Saturday morning 10 am till 11 am.

Measham Youth Club is a registered charity ( Registered number 521466)
It is run by a Management Committee composed of the Trustees plus the Youth Workers and Volunteers. We are looking to recruit more trustees, so if you might be interested then contact us via the website.

There is sub-committee responsible for the hirings and bookings of the centre, called MYC Outeach. Their responsibility is to raise income from the use of the premises which can then be used to finance the running of the building ( paying the insurance, heating and rates).
